The Womb of the World

The Womb of the World is the most sacred place in the Dothraki religion, a cave at the foot of the Mother of Mountains within the city of Vaes Dothrak. According to Dothraki legend, the first man emerged from this cave, making it the origin point of their entire people. It is the site where the dosh khaleen, the council of aged widows of dead khals, reside and perform their most important rituals. When Daenerys Targaryen was brought to Vaes Dothrak as the new bride of Khal Drogo, she was taken to the Womb of the World to be presented to the dosh khaleen. There, the crones examined her and, after a ritual, prophesied that her unborn son, Rhaego, would be the Stallion Who Mounts the World, a conqueror destined to unite all Dothraki under a single khalasar. The Womb of the World thus serves as the geographic and spiritual heart of the Dothraki faith, a place of origin, prophecy, and female authority within a warrior culture. Daenerys's memory of this place, and the hope it once represented, contrasts sharply with the loss of her child and the subsequent dissolution of Drogo's khalasar, marking a pivotal turn in her personal journey from bride to leader.
